NEWS: LPGA Snatches $10K from Rookie Yealimi Noh for Slow Play

Apparently, slow play does more than just upset those playing behind you.

Yealimi Noh, an LPGA rookie was hit with a hefty $10,000 fine last week following the Kia Classic. Rules officials gave her two bad times during the third round, which ultimately resulted in the fine.

This isn’t the first time, however, that Noh has gotten in trouble with officials for slow play. Last year in her first LPGA Tour event, Noh was also penalized for playing too slowly. The $10,000 fine issued last week also includes the fine for the first offense meaning that each separate instance cost Noh $5,000.

Normally, the fine for slow play is $2,500 per instance, but due to COVID-19 causing some events to be cancelled or moved, the fine was doubled, again equating to $5,000 per penalty.

“As much as I think about it’s a good learning experience,” Noh told Golfweek at the ANA Inspiration, “obviously now I’m never going to do that again hopefully, which is good. It’s hard to get over; that’s a lot of money.”

To put it into perspective, Noh’s winnings for the Kia Classic totaled just $4,247.

So, slow play didn’t just piss off those playing behind her, but rather wiped out her entire game check, times two!

A pretty penny to pay for taking her sweet time on the golf course.
