In a meeting a few weeks back, the Tour’s Player Advisory Council came together and voted to ban green-reading books, beginning before the start of next season. One person described the support of this change as “overwhelming.” Now, the vote moves to the full board of the PGA TOUR.

Green-reading books have been popular on TOUR for a few years now, but since they’ve been around they’ve received a lot of criticism. They give the players a lot of information, and have taken the art of reading greens almost completely out of the game. Bryson DeChambeau has become the poster child for this tool. They’re not allowed at Augusta National, and many believe that’s one of the reasons why Bryson hasn’t done anything at the Masters.

Here’s a quote from one of the players on the board, who remained anonymous…

“It was overwhelming. It wasn’t close…The books should be banned. Green reading is a skill to be learned.”

What do you think about green-reading books?

I grew up in southern New Hampshire, where I first fell in love with the game of golf. I started by just going out and messing around with my buddies and focusing purely on having a good time! I never took golf seriously until I moved down to Tampa, FL to attend the University of South Florida. Go Bulls! At the start of my junior year I got a job working as a cart boy at a local private country club. This is when I started to focus on golf becoming my career. During the fall of my senior year, I turned from a 14 handicap, to a 2. I passed the PAT scoring test my first try and haven't looked back.
