Nick Dunlap Win Brings Huge Sunday Audience
Nick Dunlap continues to make waves long after his five footer dropped at the Amex on Sunday.
The 20 year old college kid held off Sam Burns, Kevin Yu, Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Justin Thomas to capture his first PGA Tour title, the first amateur to win on Tour since Phil Mickelson back in 1991. Incidentally, Mickelson battling Adam Long for this title in 2019 drew in 574,000 views.
The Dunlap underdog story was circulating rapidly, and it looked unlikely that the Alabama sophomore would get the win over the line when Burns drew within one on the front nine. The battle on Sunday drew in a huge viewership, with over half a million tuning in on Golf Channel alone.
Nick Dunlap’s historic win at the AmEx on Sunday drew 534K viewers on Golf Channel, up 37% from Jon Rahm’s win last year (391K).

Exact figures were 534,000. For context, this number is up 37 percent from Jon Rahm’s win last year. Dunlap ended up winning the event but no prize money due to his amateur status, but the incredible story was the key factor in drawing eyes to the event.
The putt that wasn’t worth a penny was the one that captured the golfing community, and its stories like this that are hard to come by anywhere else.
