Nick Faldo Hangs up the Headset
Nick Faldo ended his broadcasting career today at the Wyndham Championship.
Alongside him, Jim Nantz detailed the 32 majors, 500 broadcasts and 2500 hours he had shared with Faldo in the commentary booth. Faldo signed off with discussions about Thomas the Tank engine, the use of the fan shout ‘mashed potato’ and other anecdotes that make him a lovable and endearing voice in the booth.

Faldo’s first event on the PGA Tour was in 1979, in the GGO at Sedgefield Country Club. He was presented with a plaque behind the 9th green today after his tenure as a commentator comes to an end at the same venue some 43 years later. He explained that his highlights in the booth included Rory at Valhalla in 2014 and Tiger’s 15th major at Augusta in 2019.
After 16 years wearing the headset, Faldo will be missed, representing the classic dry British humour as well as an impressive major haul and a wealth of experience. He was able to explain how a professional golfer thinks during tournaments, picking up on small behaviour traits that may have gone unnoticed by the casual viewer.
As Nick Faldo signs off at CBS for the final time, I’d just like to thank him on the way out once again for destroying Greg Norman mentally at the 1996 Masters. pic.twitter.com/9hbOxmb1sS

He will retire in Montana, focusing on whiskey ventures, his junior series, the newly constructed Faldo Farm, and some fishing.
His successor – 2008 Masters champion Trevor Immelman – certainly has big shoes to fill.
Thank you Sir Nick!
