Nick Watney Showed That The Island Green At TPC Sawgrass Is Not For The Feint Of Heart

Nick Watney just lost his marbles on the Island Green at the 17th Hole at TPC Sawgrass during the opening round of the PLAYERS.

After his first shot on the hole, which is playing at 125 yards on Thursday, went over the green, Watney took a drop from the zone and safely placed his shot on the green.

It didn’t get better from there.

Watney four-putted his ball before making a quad-bogey 7 on the 17th, putting him at +6 for the round. But it gets worse.

Watney’s four putts included a one-handed miss from just nine inches. As the ball came off the club face, it looked just off-line and slid by the side of the hole. The next putt was, reasonably, two-handed, and Watney safely secured his quad on the hole.

The 17th at TPC Sawgrass has baffled players for years, and it’s pretty impressive that some players have managed to avoid the water altogether throughout their careers.

According to SkySports NZ, 925 balls have ended up in the water on 17 since 2003. We are sure we’ll see plenty more this week, along with a few aces, like the one we saw from Hayden Buckley earlier today.
