Many celebrities and athletes are known for the prowess on the golf course, as many use the sport to relax and enjoy their free time. One big (and controversial) name is certainly happy to be able to pick up the sport again.

As I’m sure much of the world is aware, O.J. Simpson was released from prison on parole last week after serving a nine-year sentence for armed robbery. Now out and able to enjoy his freedom, O.J. has picked up his old habit of golfing again. In fact, cameras caught Simpson at his temporary residence in Nevada working on his short game with some artificial turf.

While there are obviously a lot of questions surrounding the Juice in general, one thing that has always been a fact is that he is no slouch on the golf course. After retirement from the NFL and moving through his criminal issues, Simpson picked up the game as a hobby and became quite stellar. At one point, O.J. was actually a reported 10 handicap but now that he’s 70 years old and spent nine years in jail, he’s probably not capable of playing at that clip anymore.

Simpson, 70, was also caught on camera relaxing with a family member at the Las Vegas home where he is staying temporarily after being paroled from a Nevada prison.

Golf has always been more of a release for O.J. than it has been a competition. “For five hours a day, golf takes all my concentration, and nobody bugs me,” Simpson had told Sports Illustrated in a previous interview. “People are good about it. It’s like a golf course is kind of sacred. If I didn’t have golf, I’d be in Bellevue.”

Simpson’s residence is located in close proximity to a golf course and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him take the tee in the coming days after getting his practice in. If he doesn’t play while in Vegas, however, he should have ample opportunity in his new home, as he is expected to move to Florida to be closer to his children.

I’m not sure that we’ll be seeing O.J. at any pro-ams anytime soon but nonetheless, it’s interesting to see that picking up a golf club was one of the first things he did after earning his freedom.
