Golf has finally resumed on the PGA Tour and all of the stars are back in action for the first time in months. One of those stars is hoping to reclaim his spot back in the top tier in the World Golf Rankings.

Just a few years ago, people believed that Jordan Spieth was set for a meteoric rise, some even believed he was the next version of Tiger Woods. Since winning the Open Championship in 2017, Spieth has been struggling to find success with not only in completing the PGA TOUR grand slam, in general, any golf events. He currently sits just outside the top 50 in the World Golf Rankings but is looking prime to jump back up into the top 10.

With all of the time that was afforded to him due to the COVID-19 layoff, Spieth has been working extra hard on his game while living in Dallas. Luckily for Spieth, the Dallas area has kept golf courses open during the last few months. That being said, he has been playing tons of golf and putting in some extra training sessions with his swing coach, Cameron McCormick, all in the hopes of getting out of his three-year drought.

“I looked at (the pandemic pause) as a big-time opportunity for myself and didn’t take it lightly,” Spieth said in an interview this week at the Charles Schwab Challenge. “I was certainly grateful for the time. Certainly, it’s not a positive situation in general, but for me personally, I tried to look at how can I make this an advantage to myself.”

And right now, it looks like all of that training might have paid off. Through two rounds at the Charles Schwab Challenge, Speith is sitting at -10, just one shot off of the lead. With several other tournaments coming up, he remains focused with one goal, to make it to the Ryder Cup. Set to kick off in September, the top six points earners get automatic entry into the event, plus six captain picks. Spieth is 17th in points right now, but he’s hoping to fly up that list.

The return of a dominant Jordan Spieth would add a new dynamic to the PGA Tour and give us a lot more excitement for the rest of the year. Hopefully, Spieth will be able to get back to that level and add to his already impressive resume.
