Harold Varner III started about as bad as you can, with a triple bogey 7 on his first hole of the day. He was able to make the turn at just +1 for his round, then he found his form once again. Birdieing 5 of his last 6, Varner posted a cool 66, -11 total to take the solo lead into the weekend at Colonial.

The best round of the day belonged to the best player in the world. Rory McIlory started slow, missing multiple birdie putts inside 15ft. He finally got one to drop on 13 (he started on 10) from 16ft, then stuck a wedge to 5ft on 14 for another birdie. He made the turn at 33, then eagled the 1st hole from 23ft to get to -5 on the day.

He would get to -8 for the day, -10 total, but then finish with a bogey. Rory’s iron play has been phenomenal, and continues to be the best long-iron player in the world. He made better swings with his wedges today, but could still be improved. He will enter the weekend at -9, looking to get another win.

Jordan Spieth picked up where he left off on Friday, seemingly in control of every aspect of his game. He drove the ball with confidence, and had the irons dialed in.

Before the break, Jordan struggled to find greens, but this week he has found 72% of them. He was rolling the rock, making the turn with a 31. Then made back-to-back birdies on his 10th and 11th hole of the day to take the solo lead at the time at -11. A 4-putt on his 12th hole dropped him to -9, but still had a share of the lead. Birdies on 5 and 6 got him to -10 and that’s where he will begin Saturday afternoon.

Bryson DeChambeau continued to demolish the golf ball on Friday. His workout routine and his commitment to hitting the ball further is paying huge dividends. He stated earlier this week that the muscle gain was to simply “increase ball speed,” but it’s doing much more than that.

Through the first 2 days of play, Bryson is averaging over 340 yards per drive. This is 20 yards longer than World No.1 Rory Mcilory, who is notorious for the long ball.

Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa continued their consistent play, both finishing without a bogey on the scorecard. Collin continues his streak of made cuts, as he hasn’t missed one since getting on Tour. Both sit at -9 heading into the weekend.

I grew up in southern New Hampshire, where I first fell in love with the game of golf. I started by just going out and messing around with my buddies and focusing purely on having a good time! I never took golf seriously until I moved down to Tampa, FL to attend the University of South Florida. Go Bulls! At the start of my junior year I got a job working as a cart boy at a local private country club. This is when I started to focus on golf becoming my career. During the fall of my senior year, I turned from a 14 handicap, to a 2. I passed the PAT scoring test my first try and haven't looked back.
