OOPS: Justin Thomas Blasted for His F-Bomb Slip Up
There were a lot of eyes on Justin Thomas at the PGA Championship since he entered the event as the #1 golfer in the world. And with all those eyes also came a lot of ears.
While I think everyone involved with the PGA Tour would prefer to have fans on the course for events, there have been a lot of things to come out of the quarantined PGA TOUR. One of the most unique and popular aspects of a spectator-less tournament is that fans are much more likely to hear what the players are saying and their ultimate reactions. That’s where Justin Thomas is getting into a little bit of trouble.
It wasn’t JT’s best performance at TPC Harding Park and you could tell with Thomas’ visible actions how frustrated he was. And at one point, Thomas let that frustration show verbally when he let out a f-bomb after a poor shot. That’s perfectly acceptable for anyone just out on the course with their buddies but on live TV, that’s a no-no.

One person who seems incredibly offended by this is Golfweek’s, Craig Dolch. Dolch wrote an entire piece in which he chastised Thomas for not being a better example on the course and not actively trying to contain his profanity. Dolch also tweeted a video of Thomas’ gaffe and reminded everyone that the children are watching.
Honestly, though, I’m not sure what Dolch expects Thomas, and any player for that matter, to do in this situation. It’s not their fault that the cameras are on them throughout their entire round. And as for picking on Thomas, this has happened to more than a handful of golfers since the restart so singling him out seems unfair. The PGA TOUR can’t really do much either outside of trying to punish players who express themselves inappropriately but that seems a bit extreme if you ask me.
There’s definitely something to be said for wanting to keep the TV waves clear of profanity but in this type of environment, it’s really unavoidable. So as for Dolch and others who have an issue with this, it seems like just something silly to complain about.
