Paige Spiranac is Firing Back at Haters Over Her Outfit Choices

One of the people that is working hard to bring more attention to how dress is perceived in women’s golf is Paige Spiranac.

Spiranac was a successful female golfer at San Diego State University and had a brief professional stint on the Cactus Tour in 2015 while also playing some other professional events in 2016. While she hasn’t played professionally in years, Spiranac still has a huge following, especially on Instagram.

Spiranac’s rise to fame has been linked by many for her outfit choices. Spiranac has never been shy about how she dresses, typically wearing low-cut tank tops that many have claimed show off “too much of her cleavage” for a family sport. Spiranac, now the host of her own podcast, has been discussing how an unfair stigma based on how she dresses had a factor in derailing her career and others like her.

“It’s like my whole life I’m trying to find a place where I can fit in and that I feel comfortable and that I feel at peace with myself and I haven’t found that. Golf is the absolute worst place for me to be because I am the exact opposite of everything that a golfer should encompass, should be, and I’m not,” Spiranac shared on her “Playing A Round” podcast. “I’m not refined, I’m raw and real and I wear what I want and I have always been so different and golf is not that way.”

Spiranac went on to describe how she has somehow picked up a reputation and has been subjected to some terrible name-calling just because of how she dresses. She even went on to describe some stories about how she has been denied from doing charity events because of that unfounded reputation. As someone who has always wanted to help children less fortunate than herself, this was a real blow for Spiranac and she wants to make sure it doesn’t happen to any other women.

I also want to make it clear I’m not saying poor me or playing the victim. I know I’m going to get hate for what I wear and speaking out. I’m just facing it head on now instead of worrying about being accepted. I will never change myself so I can fit in.

It’s sad that in our day and age, people are still being judged based on what they decide to wear rather than their character. Hopefully, as a sport and a society, we can all move on and be better when it comes to making sure all players and fans are treated fairly.
