Patrick Cantlay made a shock move ahead of the John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run by withdrawing from the event ahead of its start this Thursday.

The PGA TOUR confirmed the decision earlier today, also stating Russell Knox will take Cantlay’s place:

Cantlay revealed on his Instagram the reason for the WD:

“While training for the John Deere Classic, I sustained an injury. Out of an abundance of caution and on the advice of my team, I unfortunately have to miss this week’s event. We are optimistic about a speedy return to competition. Thanks to the fans in the Quad Cities for your support and hope to see you next year!”

While he is set to play in The Open Championship at Royal Troon in the coming weeks, Cantlay is not in the field for the Genesis Scottish Open, which will be played in two weekends.
