Back-to-Back Hole-in-Ones Steal the Show at U.S. Senior Open
One of the great things about golf is that you can see something you’ve never seen before at any time.
A perfect example of this took place Friday morning at the U.S. Senior Open.
Frank Bensel Jr. created a highlight when he notched an ace on the par-3 fourth hole at Newport Country Club in Rhode Island.
After collecting his ball after the hole-in-one on the 184-yard hole, he headed to the fifth, which was also a par 3, measuring at 203 yards.
That’s when lightning struck twice.
TRULY HISTORIC ‼️

Unfortunately, there’s no video of the accomplishment, so we’ll have to settle for what the USGA posted.
Bensel said after his round:
“So the first one was great, so that got me under par for the day. And then the second one, I just couldn’t believe it. To even think that that could happen was amazing.”
While the records aren’t complete, it’s believed to be the first back-to-back hole-in-ones in USGA championship history, which covers a lot of ground.
Despite Bensel’s good fortune, it didn’t last. His 4-over 74, combined with a 75 in the opening around, wasn’t enough to get him to the weekend.
But he picked up a memory that will last forever.
Bensel continued:
“It was like an out-of-body experience. I was more excited than I wanted to be.”
