Peter Kostis Claims He Witnessed Patrick Reed Cheat on Multiple Occasions

Peter Kostis has been the premier voice in golf coverage for my entire life. When I started following golf I knew he was the guy when it came to live coverage from the course at the player’s level.

Along that time Peter has seen and heard some things to say the least. Recently he joined the No Laying Up Podcast to discuss how his time ended with the CBS golf coverage.

He was candid and honest with his comments. He wasn’t taking shots at anyone directly, but he also wasn’t holding back on his opinion. One thing that stood out beyond the “dirty side” of the golf telecast and the politics that goes with it was what he had to say about Patrick Reed.

That’s right, the guy who has done an amazing job of being the most hated guy in golf…Reed has had a history of shady actions that go all the way back to college. Back in December Reed was caught improving his lie in the sand at the Hero World Championship. That’s when the flood gates opened, and we start to find out that this isn’t anything new by Reed.

During his visit on the No Laying Up Podcast while taking about gambling, Reed’s name is mentioned and his cheating incident is brought up once again. That’s when you hear Peter quietly go “well” and then catch himself from saying more.

That was until it Reed was brought up again later in the show. By this point Peter had been sharing his option on a lot of topics so he was nice and lose. When asked “how would you have handled the Patrick reed situation if you where on the call” Peter shared another inside look at the golf business. He was told that he is there to report the story and be part of it. He can’t call out penalties but he can comment. He was reporting the tournament, not officiating it.

That’s fair enough and I get that from a television perspective, but then he dropped some crazy intel on Captain America. “I’ve seen Patrick Reed improve his lie, up close and personal four times now.”

I’m sorry what was that?!?

Peter brings up a video on YouTube that has clear audio of Peter commenting on how Reed pretended to pick between clubs so he could push the grass down, resulting him being able to hit a 3 wood instead of the sand wedge layup it should have been.

Reed Cheat?

No Description

He brings up another time where Reed hit a shot over the green on a par 3. “He did the same thing. Put 3 or 4 clubs behind, and it was really a treacherous shot that nobody had gotten it close all day long from over there. By the time he was done, I could read Callaway on the golf ball from my tower. But I can’t say anything.”

This is absolutely nuts to me! This guy is isn’t playing for a beer after the round with his buddies. We have all seen someone use a foot wedge at our local muni, but this isn’t your local course, it’s the PGA Tour.

The amount of balls it takes to act like you’re deciding between clubs so you can improve your lie is impressive. There are cameras everywhere. Fans down both sides of the fairway and you still do it!

There are a lot of things to unpack from this interview with Peter so if you would like to check out the full interview, you will want to listen to this one from the No Laying Up Podcast.

Ed started playing golf when he was 18. It started out as a hobby and something he liked to do but by 2014 it had turned into a full blown obsession. Since then Ed has committed himself to improving and learning more about the game. He doesn’t work in the golf industry, he’s not a teaching pro, he’s a guy who just loves the game and enjoys sharing his thoughts with others who share the same passion.
