PGA Junior League Golf is Heading to Asia

The PGA has done a good job of recruiting new, young players to the game of golf here in America through technological and social media advances.  Now, the PGA is looking to bring the same type of growth around the world.

Starting this summer, the successful Junior League will make its first appearance in Asia, specifically kicking off in China.  While the PGA gains many players from America and Europe, the game has also become extremely popular across Asia, making it a great place to experiment with the Junior League abroad.

The PGA Junior League, as it works now, pairs children under the age of 13 with their friends on teams.  These teams are then led by professional instructors, who ensure that the children learn important skills and rules that allow them to thrive as they get older.  The program has been so successful that there has been a 300% increase in participation in the United States since 2013.

The PGA is excited to be moving into Asia and take this opportunity around the world.

“The PGA of America is excited about the opportunity to introduce PGA Junior League Golf to children in Asia.”

– PGA of America CEO Pete Bevacqua

“The PGA is proud of this innovative partnership that will deliver PGA Junior League Golf’s fun and engaging youth golf team format to the region, which is so important to the future growth of our game worldwide.”

While much of the program will remain the same, there is one main change that the Junior League will test in Asia.  Along with leagues that compete on the typical green-grass golf courses, there will also be some groups working with indoor golf simulator centers.  While there is no official reason for testing this strategy, it could be due to the fact that China has attempted to crack down on the sport and has closed several courses.

With how successful this program has been in America, it will be exciting to see if the PGA Junior League will take off in Asia just as much as it has in the United States.
