Just For Fun
Dwayne Johnson AKA “The Rock” Claims to Hit a 490 Yard Drive
Dwayne Johnson, better known as “The Rock,” is an extremely talented and athletic man. Not only was he a football star at the University of Miami, WWE superstar, and world-renowned actor, Johnson apparently has a strong golf game as well.
With how busy he is in his filming ventures, it may be a surprise to see Johnson hitting the course for a quick 18 holes. What may surprise you even more, however, is how well Johnson can play.
According to his Instagram account, The Rock pounded a drive that measured approximately 490 yards. To put that in perspective, one of the PGA TOUR’s biggest hitters, Bubba Watson, has a career-long drive of only 424 yards.
Johnson reportedly hit the shot while filming a scene for his TV Show, Ballers, where he stars as a marquee sports agent. Many may have a hard time believing that he could hit a ball that far, being as he isn’t the most avid golfer, but looking at his Instagram post, Johnson is certainly looks big enough to give it a good ride.
As many were probably wondering, The Rock posted that he came just shy of passing the record for longest drive ever recorded, which is 515 yards, set in 1974 by Mike Austin. According to the history, Austin, 64, hit the drive at the National Seniors Open Championship at the Desert Rose Golf Club in Las Vegas. Austin seemed to be helped that day by a 35 mph wind that was at his back.
There is no report of any strong wind gusts when Johnson hit his ball or how high above sea level he was but it seems that his drive was the product of pure strength. And while he wasn’t able to surpass Austin’s record, he vowed that one day he will take the longest drive crown. “I failed math when I was a kid, but I think that’s kinda close.” Johnson posted. “One fun day I will break the world record.”
Right now he seems to be too busy with his filming to go out and break the record but if he has the time and plays at the right time, I have no doubt that he could eventually surpass Austin’s record drive.
