Few Changes to 2025 PGA Tour Schedule Make It Appear That No Deal With Saudi PIF Is Imminent

Unlike many press conferences with PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan over the past couple of years, his news gathering before the start of the FedEx Cup Playoffs in Memphis, Tennessee, on Wednesday was largely uneventful.

When asked about negotiations with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund about the so-called framework agreement that was signed in June 2023, Monahan didn’t have much new to add.

Monahan said:

“As it relates to times and timeframes and where we are, I’d just say that we’re in a good place with the conversations. That’s the most important thing.”

The last time the negotiations were in the news was in June, when it was reported that members of PGA Tour Enterprises met with PIF governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan. Initially, the agreement was supposed to be finalized by Dec. 31, 2023, but the deadline has been extended indefinitely.

The 2025 PGA Tour schedule is also out, and there is no indication that a deal with the financial backers behind LIV Golf is imminent by the makeup of the schedule.

Monahan was asked if next year’s schedule indicated that there wouldn’t be any involvement with LIV through 2026 or ‘27.

“That’s fair,” the commissioner responded.

As for the schedule itself, there are very few changes from 2024:

  • The Truist Championship, which was the Wells Fargo Championship, will be held at Philadelphia Cricket Club in Pennsylvania since Quail Hollow will be hosting the PGA Championship later in May.
  • The Memorial moves back a week to its traditional spot of two weeks before the U.S. Open.
  • The 3M Open moves up a few weeks, so there will only be one event (Wyndham Championship) following the Open Championship and the start of the playoffs.
  • The BMW Championship will be at Caves Valley Golf Club in Maryland, which last hosted the second leg of the playoffs in 2021.
