PGA Tour Countersuit Against LIV Golf Points Fingers at Mickelson and DeChambeau
As part of LIV Golf’s lawsuit against the PGA Tour, where it claims the suspensions handed down are illegal and done to preserve a monopoly, the PGA Tour has filed a countersuit against the new golf circuit.
The countersuit claims that LIV Golf is using a campaign to pay players “astronomical sums of money to induce them to breach their contracts with the [PGA Tour].”
It goes on to say that LIV’s intentions are to just try and enhance the image of the Saudi Arabian government instead of growing the game of golf, stating:
“…an effort to use the LIV Players and the game of golf to ‘sportswash’ the recent history of Saudi atrocities and to further the Saudi Public Investment Fund’s Vision 2030 initiatives.”
Specific players are part of the claim as well.

The PGA Tour alleges that LIV used Phil Mickelson and Bryson DeChambeau to try and recruit fellow PGA Tour members.
As part of the original antitrust lawsuit filed by LIV, 11 players were also part of it. Earlier this week, Mickelson was among four players who withdrew their names from the suit. The only players who now remain part of the lawsuit are DeChambeau, Matt Jones, and Peter Uihlein.
In a statement after the countersuit was filed, LIV said,
“The Tour has made these counterclaims in a transparent effort to divert attention from their anti-competitive conduct… We remain confident that the courts and the justice system will right these wrongs.”
