The PGA TOUR’s “Creator Classic” is returning for the second straight year, giving some of the biggest YouTubers and TikTokers in the golf space the opportunity to go up against each other just one day before the pros tee off at the same course.

This year, the Creator Classic will be played at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, just one day ahead of THE PLAYERS Championship, a tournament that has a prestigious reputation and is sometimes referred to as “The Fifth Major.”

The lineup of players includes some of the more notable names in the golf space, as well as some up-and-comers. For the most part, fans of the modern game will recognize nearly all of the names playing in this year’s tournament, which was won by Luke Kwon, a former member of Good Good Golf, last year.

The names playing in the tournament are:

  • Wesley Bryan
  • George Bryan
  • Fat Perez
  • Gabby Golf Girl
  • Roger Steele
  • Grant Horvat
  • Tisha Alyn
  • Kyle Berkshire
  • Chris Soloman
  • A TBD Barstool Personality

Interestingly, there are no members of Good Good in the field for this event. Kwon, the defending champion, was also not included in the PGA TOUR’s announced “full field” for the Creator Classic.

The PGA TOUR’s Attempt to Stay Modern

As the dynamic of golf, as a whole, has changed, the PGA TOUR is trying to stay modern, fresh, and fun. Golf is primarily consumed through content creation, as groups like Bob Does Sports, Good Good, and others have offered a new way to watch the game, which so many love on a somewhat relatable level.

The TOUR’s second annual Creator Classic brings in some top-notch talent, but it also brings in the personalities and creators that so many have come to love. This, in itself, could lead to the newer golf fans giving the professional game a watch, something the TOUR could most certainly use as it has struggled to accumulate growing viewership on a consistent level.

Embracing the new environment golf has to offer has already started paying off for the PGA TOUR, as it has reported a growth in viewership over the past two weeks, with the WM Phoenix Open and the Genesis Invitational showing higher numbers than last year.

Last weekend’s Genesis Invitational saw a 5 percent uptick in viewership from 2024, as 3.5 million viewers tuned in for the final round on Sunday.

The TOUR has also used other strategies to combat the lack of interest in professional golf over the past few years. The establishment of a Creator Council has let YouTube’s biggest names help the TOUR find exciting and entertaining ways to attract fans.
