The PGA TOUR is expected to come to financial terms to a deal with LIV Golf and the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) in the first quarter of 2025, meaning a deal to unify golf once again could come before The Masters.

The long-awaited merger between the two rival golf tours and the money behind LIV Golf is expected to end division in professional golf, and it has been expedited potentially by the involvement of President Donald Trump, who was thanked by the PGA TOUR’s two Player Directors, Tiger Woods and Adam Scott, along with Commissioner Jay Monahan.

The deal is expected to come in the first quarter of 2025, according to Rex Hoggard, who stated on the Golf Channel Podcast that internal rumblings seem to indicate a financial deal has either been reached and is set to be announced or will be reached before the end of Q1.

Hoggard says that the involvement of President Trump has “tipped the scales in the direction of some sort of financial agreement probably in the first quarter is what we’re all hearing.”

If true, the implications of how professional golf could change are drastic. There are a lot of other things to be worked out as a result of the agreement, including LIV Golfers and whether they will be able to play in PGA TOUR events, whether PGA TOUR players will be able to participate in LIV events, how they will be financed and how the two tours can co-exist.

Things continue to be up in the air, however. There is no confirmation that the TOUR has agreed to any specific monetary or financial figure that would see the PIF become an investor. However, last week’s statement by Woods, Scott, and Monahan seemed to indicate that things are moving swiftly in the right direction.

The three said last week in a statement:

“We know golf fans are eagerly anticipating a resolution to negotiations with the Public Investment Fund and want to thank President Trump for his interest and long-time support of the game of golf. We asked the President to get involved for the good of the game, the good of the country, and for all the countries involved. We are grateful that his leadership has brought us closer to a final deal, paving the way for reunification of men’s professional golf.”
