Phil Mickelson Eyes Return At Elusive U.S. Open To Complete Grand

There’s no doubt that the golf world has been worse for wear since the self imposed sabbatical that Phil Mickelson has taken. Phil’s comments on the Saudi backed golf league left many with a bit of disdain for the seemingly tone deaf remarks.

His entry into the US Open could pave the way for some redemption among Phil and the fans.

Mickelson has long been a fan favorite for his quirky and funny remarks and fan engagement. Notorious for sticking around post rounds to sign autographs for each and every fan, the trepidation to accept Phil back into the fold is less of a precarious proposition than some others might be.

After much backlash, Phil issued his apology and slipped into the abyss, missing The Masters and apparently dodging colleagues checking in on him. Bryson was quoted as saying that Phil essentially “went dark.”

The US Open at The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts, is arguably the best way for Phil to return to competition.

With many heartbreaking misses at the US Open, such as Winged Foot in 2006, and the famous 199 finish at Pinehurst No. 2 that saw Payne Stewart edge out a victory on the 18th green, Phil has yet to win a US Open and complete the career, Major Grand Slam.

As Tiger Woods returned to competition at The Masters, the world seemed unified in spirit and support for the return of one of golf’s best ever. The world embraced Tiger Woods’ amazing victory at the 2019 Masters and supported his return again for the 2022 campaign. It always seems as though Tiger and Phil are competing, even when it’s truly just against the man in the mirror.

For a man who has lost so much due to the flippant comments he uttered; sponsors, support, and undoubtedly confidence, the stage is set for real heroics.

Just as Phil had commanded the hearts of the world with his unprecedented PGA Championship win at The Ocean Course at Kiawah, S.C., who’s to say that he can’t do it again at Brookline and complete the career grand slam?
