Phil Mickelson Roasts Fred Couples for ‘Low Class Jerk Move’
Phil Mickelson did not hold back on Fred Couples for revealing what seemed to be elements of a private conversation between him and Brooks Koepka.
Koepka has been rumored as one player from LIV Golf who could return to the PGA TOUR when his contract with the rival league is up. Fred Couples, who is friends with Koepka, recently talked briefly about their discussions and indicated that the five-time Major Champion is ready to leave LIV Golf:
“I talked to Brooks Koepka all the time. I love Brooks Koepka, and I’m not going to say anything extra except I talk to him all the time…He wants to come back. I will say that I believe he really wants to come back and play the Tour.”
Although it might have been something that many PGA TOUR fans wanted to hear, LIV Golf's own Phil Mickelson did not agree with Couples airing out Koepka's thoughts on leaving LIV. Whether it was true or not, Mickelson let Couples have it, calling what he did a "low class jerk move" in a now-deleted post on X:
"If it’s not true he damaged a relationship which he cares about. If it is true he took away Brook’s control of the timeline and narrative. Either way this is a low class jerk move by Fred."
Whether Koepka is actually planning to come back to the PGA TOUR is something that we will have to wait and see.

Koepka admitted that he chose to take the $100m payout from LIV due to uncertainty in his career. Injuries and other ailments were impacting Koepka's game, causing him to lose his form and question his longevity.
That was until 2023, when he finished runner-up at The Masters and won the PGA Championship, returning back to his normal self.
Mickelson makes a valid point, though: Fred disearned Koepka's trust, at least potentially, by revealing what might have been said during a conversation that was most likely meant to be kept private. That is, if it even happened at all.
