Parsons Xtreme Golf, or PXG, has laid off more than 10 percent of its staff, roughly 125 employees, according to a report from MyGolfSpy.

According to the report, PXG axed the employees over a Zoom call, with 60 employees working at the company’s brick-and-mortar locations across the United States. The other cuts were made across other portions of the business.

Golficity reached out to PXG for a comment but did not immediately receive a response. However, employees who were affected by the layoffs said on LinkedIn that they were thankful for their experience with the company.

While it is speculation, it is likely the business could have been affected by the residual effects of COVID-19, which has resulted in a sluggish economy across the board and has affected so many industries, including the high-demand tech sector.

Over the past three years, many golf companies have been affected by layoffs. Callaway lost 100 employees and furloughed three times as many. Titleist, PING, and TaylorMade shut down operations temporarily. It still has affected the industry, as it is challenging to get anything from shafts to clubs to grips.

Golf was affected both positively and negatively by the pandemic. Personally, I saw many golf courses in my area change hands due to a lack of funding, including my home course in Red Lion, PA, of Bridgewater Golf Club, which has been sold twice since 2020. However, golf was one of the few activities that were available to people during the pandemic. It contributed to significant growth in players and content, and golf has never been stronger than it is today in terms of overall interest.

It’s sad to see the cuts at PXG, and we are hopeful this is one of the few companies that is affected by layoffs.
