PXG’s Secret Weapon Promises Power and Precision

You gotta give the people what they want, and right now, everybody wants (among other things) mini-drivers. Indeed, while TaylorMade and Callaway seemed to be the only options for mini-drivers during the past year, Titleist announced that it, too, would be releasing its own—the GT280.

So rather than thank him against the current, PXG is releasing its own and, in my opinion, it stands to be the most robust offering of the bunch.

PXG’s Secret Weapon is an innovative mini-driver designed to enhance performance off the tee and from the fairway for skilled golfers. Thoughtfully engineered for advanced golfers seeking the ideal blend of control and distance, the Secret Weapon offers a penetrating ball flight and tight dispersion, while also providing exceptional distance.

PXG Founder and CEO Bob Parsons:

“With the PXG Secret Weapon, we aimed to create a versatile mini-driver that allows better players to achieve remarkable consistency and performance both off the tee and off the deck.”

PXG’s Secret Weapon Promises Power & Precision

Key Features of the PXG Secret Weapon include:

  • High-Strength Ultra-Thin Titanium Face: Optimized for maximum ball speed and ideal launch conditions.
  • High-Strength Composite Construction: Ensures durability without sacrificing performance.
  • Larger Top & Face Profile: Confidence-inspiring face height for easier contact and improved consistency.
  • Carbon Fiber Crown: Lightweight and strong, contributing to optimal weight distribution.
  • Precision Weighting Technology: Customizable weight system for tailored ball flight.
  • Robotic Polishing: Refines the bulge and roll characteristics for consistent performance across the face.
  • Adjustable Hosel: Allows players to fine-tune loft and lie angles.

The PXG Secret Weapon presents a high moment-of-inertia (MOI) design for outstanding stability and forgiveness. Its lightweight composite crown insert is crafted from high-grade carbon fiber using an advanced compression molding process. This strong yet light material enables the strategic redistribution of weight within the clubhead, increasing MOI and shifting the center of gravity (CG) lower and further back.

With an adjustable hosel, players can dial in identify their optimal loft (ranging between 11.5 and 13.5 degrees) enable golfers to achieve a high launch, low spin trajectory tailored to their unique swing style.

As I mentioned earlier, I think the Secret Weapon stands to be the best of the mini-driver bunch. And the main reason why is Precision Weighting Technology. While the alternative options very limited (if any) adjustability, Precision Weighting Technology allows you to—like the Black Ops metalwoods—access four different weight ports located at the extremes of the toe, heel, front and rear of the sole. Golfers can then utilize a range of weights, including the default two heavy weights (15g) and two light weights (2.5g), to influence significant changes to the center-of-gravity and dial in the desired ball flight. Additional weights are offered for extreme adjustability.

A proven performer at the highest level of the game, the PXG Secret Weapon has already made its mark on the PGA TOUR in Jake Knapp’s winning bag at the Grant Thornton Invitational.
