PXG’s Black Ops Irons Redefine Game Improvement

Whether you’re newer to the game, don’t have the time and resources to take lessons or just struggle on the course, game improvement irons are there to make the experience more enjoyable. The problem, however, with game improvement irons is that they’ve followed a standardized blueprint: have a wide sole, launch high, and with extra ball speed.

And sure, that works, but additional factors that help golfers enjoy the game more—forgiveness and feel—are frequently left out of that recipe.

PXG’s newly-released Black Ops Irons expand on the top-performing metalwoods with an iron set that has been purposefully designed with technologies and performance tailored for game improvement clubs.

The Black Ops irons present a thicker top rail, larger face profile, and increased offset consistent with a traditional game-improvement club and they perform exceptionally well for a wide variety of players looking for an edge.

PXG Senior Director of Irons Research & Development and former PGA TOUR Professional Mike Nicolette said:

“PXG Black Ops Irons are our first true game-improvement iron. When you set the club down, it creates a lot of confidence, it is so easy to hit and explodes off the face. Amateurs who hit this club are going to be blown away.”

The Black Ops Irons’ Dual Cavity Design

To significantly boost moment-of-inertia (MOI) (a measurement for forgiveness on off-center shots), the Black Ops Irons introduce a Dual Cavity Design that is engineered to remove mass from the center of the club and redistribute that weight to the perimeter. The weight-saving insert on the outer cavity allows the center of gravity (CG) to be placed lower and farther back for optimal launch and maximum forgiveness.

The inner cavity, meanwhile, is filled with PXG’s proprietary XCOR2 Technology, a lightweight polymer that helps dramatically increase forgiveness on heel-toe and high-low mishits and—in tandem with the extremely thin, high-strength HT1770 maraging steel face—generates peak ball speeds.

Additionally, the face employs PXG’s flagship Power Channel Technology, an innovative U-shaped corridor built into the internal surface of the club face to increase deflection. Combined with PXG’s proprietary core, the system generates a feel that is better than forged and provides superior forgiveness and explosive ball speed.

In testing against competitor’s game improvement irons, the Black Ops Irons generated the tightest dispersion, regardless of how it was measured—left-to-right lateral dispersion, overall dispersion (square footage), and carry distance.

With the Black Ops Irons, PXG has developed irons that make sure you can enjoy playing your best—even when you don’t have PGA TOUR-level skills.

The Black Ops Irons are on sale right now, but to make sure you can maximize your playing performance, make sure to find your local PXG location and get fit into the right head/shaft combination.

Ever since golf became a competitive outlet, nothing brings Eric more joy than a well struck 4 iron. And despite living in NYC, Eric makes it a priority to work on his game and fitness during the week, along with a round or two over the weekend. Fortunately, he’s got a very understanding fiancé who (for the time being) accepts him and his obsession. Follow Eric on IG @hozel_rocket.
