TRENDING: Meet PXG’s “Reasonably” Priced 0211 Irons

Since its founding in 2014, PXG has never shied away from its uber-premium pricetag.  Indeed, a single, second-gen 0311 irons retails for approximately $400, or $500 if you decide to opt for the Xtreme Dark finish.

But PXG’s latest release—the 0211 irons—takes a very different approach, as evidenced by the substantial difference in price: $195 per club with the stock True Temper’s Elevate steel shafts, and $210 per club with the stock Mitsubishi MMT graphite shafts.  And if those shafts don’t appeal to you, for an additional $25 per club, golfers can upgrade to any alternative shaft from PXG’s comprehensive shaft matrix.

Regardless, the bottom line is that the 0211 irons are approximately half the price of the second-gen 0311 irons.

So what changes have been made to the 0211 irons that result in the considerably “more reasonable” price point?  Immediately noticeable is that PXG’s signature tungsten-weight screws are gone.  Furthermore, in contrast to the 0311s, the 0211s are cast from 431 stainless steel.  That said, the 0211s cast body is harder and, as a result, should be more durable and resistant to corrosion.

That said, PXG hasn’t cut any corners with, arguably, the most important component: the club face.  Indeed, the 0211s have the same 1770M faceplate found on the 0311s, which PXG claims is the thinnest face on the market.  Additionally, PXG has incorporated its proprietary COR2 polymer material inside the clubheads, which serves two purposes.  First, it absorbs vibrations and enhances the sound of impact and feel.  Second, it supports the face while allowing it to flex efficiently at impact, which helps create more ball speed and distance.

Finally, the 0211s faceplate are laser-welded onto the body around the perimeter of the hitting area, instead of on the face itself, which helps create a larger sweet spot and higher ball speed across a greater area.

Aesthetically, the 0211 irons will progressively reduce blade length and offset as you transition from the long to short irons.

The PXG 0211s will go on sale on May 21st, and it’ll be very interesting to see whether any PXG staffers will put the more affordable priced clubs into play, particularly in light of the fact that PXG has released an iron at a more consumer-friendly price point.
