Report: Cameron Young Now Expected to Stay on PGA Tour

The golf news off the course has been as unpredictable as the action on the leaderboard in recent months, as reports have been swirling around many of the PGA Tour’s major stars joining the LIV Golf league.

Two huge gets for LIV Golf were reported this week in Open Championship winner Cameron Smith and likely PGA Tour Rookie of the Year Cameron Young, but now, a source from within the PGA Tour says that Young is likely to now stay put.

“He has been contacted by them, but at this point is very strongly inclined to remain on the PGA Tour,” the source was reported to have said by Golfweek.

Young, ranked 17th in the world, has been one of the PGA Tour’s hottest golfers as of late: he was third at the U.S. Open and has five runner-up finishes this year, including in his last two events (Open Championship and Rocket Mortgage Classic).

Meantime, a judge denied three players’ requests to play in the FedEx Cup playoff events, saying that they are not facing irreparable financial harm and knew the consequences of their decision before joining the rival group, so that could also play a part in golfers’ decisions on their future.

LIV Golf’s next event isn’t until September 2-4 in the Boston area, which is a week after the FedEx Cup concludes with the Tour Championship, so expect a flurry of news at that point to put much of this speculation to rest.
