Here we go again.

After a quiet couple of months following the defections from the PGA Tour to LIV Golf of Cameron Smith, Joaquin Niemann, and others, the rumor mill is once again spinning at a dizzying rate.

After LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman said last week that they’re targeting around seven new players for 2023, the Twitter account @LIVTracking dropped a bombshell.

If the report comes to fruition, Patrick Cantlay (the 2021 FedEx Cup champion), Xander Schauffele (reigning Olympic gold medalist), and Chilean Mito Pereira will team up with Niemann as a four-man unit.

A report by The Mirror seems to point in a similar direction. It claims that Cantlay and Schauffele are being targeted, along with Australian veteran Adam Scott and Belgium’s Thomas Pieters, who is having a fine rookie season on the PGA Tour.

Cantlay and Schauffele are friends on and off the course, as the duo have rattled off several wins in Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup competitions, and the two also won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans in 2022. That tournament is the only two-man team event on the PGA Tour schedule each year.

LIV Golf will be going to a 14-tournament schedule in 2023. Norman said that he expects to retain about 85-90% of the current 48-player roster.
