Report: Tiger Woods to Meet and Rally Support With PGA Tour Pros Against LIV Golf

The narrative on LIV Golf could soon be changing after next week’s Tour Championship, as Open Championship winner Cameron Smith is expected to join the fledgling series.

That would give LIV one of the top golfers in the world, and a young one at that. The knock thus far on LIV Golf is that it’s filled with high-priced big names—but most of whom are past their prime.

Acquiring Smith would change that, and who knows what other surprises are in store once the current PGA Tour season wraps up.

Perhaps this is why the PGA Tour appears to be stepping up its defenses against the new series, reportedly bringing in Tiger Woods for a meeting before this week’s BMW Championship in Wilmington, Delaware.

“It’s a meeting to get the top 20 players in the world on the same page on how we can continue to make the PGA Tour the best product in professional golf,” a player who was invited to the meeting told ESPN on Monday.

You may remember Shipnuck’s name as the author of Phil Mickelson’s biography that stirred up controversy in February.

As for Woods, he wasn’t shy in his criticism of LIV Golf prior to the Open Championship last month.

It’s also been reported that PGA commissioner Jay Monahan will meet with the players on Wednesday in Wilmington.
