REVIEW: L.A.B Golf OZ.1 Putter

LAB Golf putters are all the craze in the golf community right now, and their most recent release of the OZ series combines the company’s patented technology with a Tour-inspired design, making it one of the most popular flatsticks of 2025.

Putting is perhaps the most difficult part of golf, especially as the majority of your shots during a round will be composed of those from 100 yards or less (and for most of us amateurs, they will be putts). It is important to guide your game in the right direction by picking a putter that offers proper forgiveness and the correct head for your arc shape.

L.A.B putters also feature something no other flatstick on the market can: patented face-balancing technology.

The Inspiration

LAB designed the OZ.1 series in collaboration with 2013 Masters Champion Adam Scott, who used his fondness for “a certain 2021 high-performance German sports car” to inspire the shape of the OZ.1 putter head.

The collab between the two resulted in LAB’s first-ever half-moon style mallet putter, which packs all of the face-balancing technology of its other models with a unique shape not offered by other OEMs in the golf space.

The Design and Technology

The OZ.1 has a solid aluminum construction, while the OZ.1i has a stainless steel insert on the face. LAB told me its big focus for its putter releases this year will be to allow players to choose certain features that benefit their game or that they prefer.

Personally, I found the stainless steel insert left me less confident in determining the correct speed of the putt. I prefer the OZ.1’s lack of a stainless steel insert.

REVIEW: L.A.B. Golf OZ.1i, a Fitting Follow-Up to the DF3

For the first time, LAB is offering a new vertical shaft option, which is different from the default shaft lean that its putters usually offer.

Jordan Spieth is well-known for subconsciously pressing the putter grip forward before he begins his backstroke. This reduces loft and spin, creating a more consistent roll and resulting in more made putts:

LAB's typical putter builds, used in conjunction with the press grips, eliminate the need to do this yourself.

However, LAB’s default configuration with past models was not for everyone, so, in an effort to align with its strategy of giving players more customization, it is available stock without the shaft lean. It can be ordered custom with a 2-degree shaft lean, which is the same as the DF3.

Other stock options available for the OZ.1 series include lengths of 33, 34, and 35 inches, a lie angle of 69 inches, and a Matte Black Premium Steel Shaft.

The OZ.1 is slightly heavier at the head than the DF3, which I tend to like because it makes letting the putter do the work much easier. However, I prefer the DF3 head size and shape to the OZ.1, which is my personal preference.

The face balancing tech on the LAB lineup is evident on the OZ.1 and helps take an entire factor out of putting.

Getting the ball started on the right line is essential to making a putt or even executing a successful lag putt. With other putters, it takes a conscious effort by the player to do this, but with LAB putters, the guesswork is done for you.

In terms of sound and feel, the solid Aluminum head construction creates a quality experience of ball striking on the greens. With the forward shaft lean automatically offered through LAB tech, the ball just seems to bounce off the face, which is something you expect out of a high-quality putter.

I don’t have many complaints, but if I were to be nitpicky, I’d say what I did previously: I simply prefer the head shape and confidence the DF3 head gives me over the OZ.1. And while I don’t have any true distaste for the OZ.1 weight, I do feel that the DF3 just feels better to me.

All in all, you really cannot go wrong with a LAB putter, and the OZ.1 has all the benefits of LAB’s technology with a look and feel inspired by a Major Champion.
