Rory McIlroy Clinches 2022 Race To Dubai To Cap Off Incredible Season
Rory McIlroy finished the season atop the European points rankings for the fourth time after his performance at the DP World Tour Championship this week, securing the Race to Dubai Title. He truly is on top of the world as he finishes the 2022 season as World Number 1, FedEx Cup champion, and DP World Tour Number 1.
McIlroy has won three FedEx Cups since he last won the Season Points Title, in a decade where he has been the most consistent golfer on the planet, with ten years between his first World #1 ranking and his most recent.
He was quoted today saying;
“I am the most complete golfer I’ve ever been.”

McIlroy’s run since the Masters should not go unnoticed, it is arguably one of the best individual stretches since Tiger in the 2000s. With three wins, two runner-ups, and a cluster of top fives, it has been a remarkable season alongside all of the off-course drama.
On Saturday in Dubai, the leaderboard was mouth-watering for any prospective European Ryder Cup fans. Rahm, Rory, Fitz, Tyrell Hatton, Alex Noren, and Tommy Fleetwood clustered in the top 6 places. Matt Fitzpatrick had his eye on a third DP World Tour Championship, joking with the media that he may get some more recognition and camera time if he were to win it three times.

Jon Rahm eventually stormed ahead of the packed leaderboard, posting a Sunday score of 67 and -20 total, with Rory finishing 4th overall. This is Rahm’s third win at the Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai, taking home a $3.37m paycheck.
Rahm said:
“Hopefully, people can stop telling me that it was a bad year. Three wins worldwide, three wins in three different continents. It wasn’t a major championship, but it’s still a really, really good season.”
It bodes well for the Ryder Cup, with Europe’s top players firing on all cylinders, Rahm finishing two strokes ahead of Tyrell Hatton and Alex Noren.
In the mix of players was Ryan Fox, the New Zealander who has also had an incredible season, winning the Alfred Dunhill Links in the process of moving from outside the world’s top 200 into the top 25 in the OWGR. He finished 19th overall and took home the $1.2m paycheck for 2nd place in the 2022 Race to Dubai Points Total.
So it is Rahm and Rory at the forefront of our attention as we close the door on a wild 2022 season. Europe’s top-ranked players putting on a show over in the UAE, and Rory proving himself to be the best in the world as we enter 2023.
