Rory WD’s From This Week’s RBC Heritage
Rory McIlroy has withdrawn from next week’s event at Harbour Town, the RBC Heritage.
One of a handful of recently labeled ‘designated events,’ the purse has increased at the event to $20m. A further stipulation is that those wanting to cash in their PIP bonus are required to feature at all but one of the new elevated events.
Rory McIlroy is a WD from the RBC Heritage. The field is now 143.
WDs will not be replaced by alternates unless needed to fill the field of 132.

Rory has already missed the event at Kapalua, meaning he will have failed the new criteria bestowed on the PGA Tour players.
It begs the question of why the RBC Heritage has been made an elevated event. The week after the Masters certainly leaves a sort of hangover, especially on the top players that had to grind it out for four days in varied conditions.

Reasons for Rory’s WD are unknown, but a mixture of concerns can be drawn from the news. Whether it is a loss of confidence, a mental wobble, or rejigging some equipment, we won’t see McIlroy at Harbour Town this week.
