Koepka, Hovland Among Those Not Thrilled With Cantlay’s Slow Play During Masters’ Final Round

Jim Nantz called it the “Masters marathon” when Jon Rahm’s final putt wrapped up his 28 holes on Sunday.

As if that wasn’t enough golf, Rahm’s playing partner, Brooks Koepka, commented on the day being made even longer by the group playing in front of him:

“The group in front of us was brutally slow. Jon went to the bathroom like seven times during the round, and we were still waiting.”

Even with those bathroom breaks, Rahm and Koepka spent plenty of time throwing daggers while waiting their turn.

Ahead of the final pairing were Viktor Hovland and Patrick Cantlay. Both struggled in the final round. Coming into the day in third place, Hovland’s 74 left him tied for seventh. Cantlay was fourth and shot a 75 to wind up tied for 14th.

After looking at the footage, it appears that Cantlay was the one responsible for slow play. Just take a look at Hovland’s reaction on the 15th—walking up the fairway before Cantlay even teed off.

Cantlay was not penalized for slow play, but the circumstantial evidence shows that the players around him were not thrilled with the leisurely trip around Augusta National.
