Jason Dufner is not sitting atop the leaderboard this week after Round 1 of the Memorial Tournament, not because of bad play, but simply because he’s not in this year event.   Instead, Scott Stallings finished the day at -6 (66) to take the top spot after Round 1.

Phil Mickleson withdrew from the tournament after shooting a 79 due struggles with lack of focus from fans using cameras and cell phones and later, citing fatigue.  He plans to shift his focus to the U.S Open, which will be held on June 14th in at Olympic Club inSan Francisco.

Tiger Woods, who won here 4 times in his career, finished the round with a 70 (-2).  Tied for 11th going into round 2, Woods is looking to get back on pace to prepare himself for his go at Olympic Club in two weeks.

As for our current leader, Scott Stallings played a very aggressive round of golf, reaching one of the Par 5 greens in two, chipped an eagle in at No.7 and birdied three of them.

He birdied the 18th hole with a 2-foot putt to close out the round and stay one stroke ahead of Spencer Levin and Erik Compton.

Other notables such as No. 1 Luke Donald and No. 2 Rory McIlroy finished at -1.

Golficity’s pick: Rickie Fowler finished the round at -1.
