Rumor Mill: Nike Buys Brooks Koepka’s LIV Golf Team for $2 Billion?

The professional sport of golf is rapidly changing before our eyes in several aspects. Purses are growing exponentially each year, professional golf leagues are being formed, and unification of the game seems to be the goal now between the PGA Tour and DP World Tour with the joining of PIF.

Yet to be seen what this may look like in a tournament setting or format, but is next stage golf becoming more team-oriented?

If the rumors of Nike buying Brooks Koepka’s team on the LIV Golf Tour were true, this could set the path forward for team golf so that they are getting immense financial backing. Two billion dollars for a golf team means they are worth more than 8 of 30 teams in the NBA, to put things into perspective.

What will other teams on LIV be worth, as other brands may get involved to get their foot in the door?

Interestingly enough, if they put pen to paper, it leaves out a Nike-sponsored player, Matthew Wolff, who just left Brooks’ team.

Nonetheless, any scenario could play out here in whatever direction the PGA Tour, DP World Tour, and LIV Golf Tour may choose. The product of golf will look quite different as a result if more team golf oriented events are adopted on both PGA Tour and DP World Tour.

What would a team be worth with the likes of Rahm, Scheffler, and Rory?  We can only speculate.
