Tiger’s back.  So is every golf fanatic in the world.  Including the celebrities.

Before the pros step on the course to battle for the Ryder Cup, however, festivities are set to start with a celebrity tournament featuring stars from Europe and America alike. While the results of this quick, one-day event won’t have an effect on any of the real tournament matchups, each side will still be looking to bring pride to their home team.

The Celebrity Ryder Cup will take place this Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. in Paris with 20 celebrities, 10 representing each continent, will pair up in teams for a match play event. It will be a short scramble that will take place on holes 1 through 5 followed by holes 14 through 18 so that the celebs can get the best of the whole course.

The celebs that will take the course for each side are star-studded this year as well. The Europeans are sporting a few athletes on the roster that will want to show they’re just as good on the links as they are on clay with tennis stars Guy Forget and Yannick Noah. Also stepping into the tee box for the Europeans will be Italian Futbol star Alessandro Del Piero and Irish rugby legend Brian O’Driscoll among others.

The U.S. squad is also supporting a lot of familiar names in sports circles, most notably the most successful Olympian ever, Michael Phelps. Pro surfer Kelly Slater will also be playing while hoping to gain her footing on grass instead of his sea legs. The team will also sport some U.S. icons in actor Samuel L. Jackson and former United States Attorney General Condelezza Rice.

This tradition is definitely a fun way to kick off the historic event and I for one am especially interested in seeing Sam Jackson hit some golf balls. While it likely won’t be as intense as the real tournament, the winners will bring a lot of pride back to their country so if you’re a Ryder Cup nut, this is an event you should check out on Tuesday.
