World no. 1 Scottie Scheffler was detained by police officers, placed in handcuffs, and put in the back of a police car outside of the PGA Championship this morning.

A report from ESPN’s Jeff Darlington said Scheffler was detained this morning by local officers “after a misunderstanding with traffic flow led to his attempt to drive past a police officer into Valhalla Golf Club.”

This morning, the PGA Championship announced the tournament was being delayed due to a traffic incident that occurred outside of Valhalla Golf Club. According to spectators, police said a pedestrian was fatally struck by a shuttle bus.

Police then arrived on scene for traffic management, but there seemed to be a miscommunication between Scheffler and police after he attempted to enter the golf club for his Friday AM tee time.

Police reportedly told Darlington:

“There’s nothing you can do; he’s going to jail.”

Here is video of Scheffler’s arrest:

Scheffler was charged with 2nd Degree Assault of a Police Officer, 3rd Degree Criminal Mischief, Reckless Driving, and Disregarding Signals from Officers Directing Traffic.

Scheffler tees off at 8:48 a.m., as of now, and is sitting in T12, just five back of Xander Schauffele.
