Scottie Scheffler is one-of-a-kind, and this upcoming weekend, he will once again be a standalone example—except this time, it will not be related to breaking a record.

Scheffler is not listed on the PGA Tour’s list of athletes who will show up for this weekend’s Wells Fargo Championship, and he is the only person in of those who were invited not to accept the invitation.

It is for good reason — the birth of his first child is still lingering and imminent. Scheffler’s wife, Meredith, has been expecting and is due within the coming days.

Scheffler is ready to be a father, and based on his words after winning his second Green Jacket at The Masters in April, he is prepared for a major life change:

“I will definitely enjoy the birth of my first child. But with that being said, I still love competing. My priorities will change here very soon. My son or daughter will now be the main priority, along with my wife, so golf will now be probably fourth in line.”

The Wells Fargo Championship is one of the PGA TOUR’s signature events and is played at Quail Hollow Golf Club near Charlotte, North Carolina.

Scheffler will prepare to win his first PGA Championship in the coming weeks, as defending champion Brooks Koepka will show up at Valhalla in Louisville, Kentucky, with his game hitting its stride after a victory in Singapore at LIV Golf’s event this past weekend.

Joey Klender is a reporter covering Equipment, Footwear, and Apparel. A huge golf fan, he calls a certain week in April his favorite of the year. Inspired by the likes of Woods, Palmer, McIlroy, and Koepka, Joey plays over 100 times a year in the South Central Pennsylvania area. When he isn't golfing, he is probably thinking about golfing, but he might be watching other sports, writing, or playing poker.
