Scottie Scheffler Wins Yet Again, but Masters Champ Has Nothing on Nelly Korda

Scottie Scheffler is producing quite the legendary resume in the past two-plus years, accentuated by what he has done over the past two weeks.

After winning the RBC Heritage by three strokes, Scheffler has now accomplished the following:

  • Won four of his last five tournaments, three of which by were by at least three strokes.
  • His lone defeat was a runner-up finish at the Houston Open, where he missed a 6-foot putt that would’ve forced a playoff.
  • Became the first golfer since Bernhard Langer in 1985 to win the week after winning the Masters. It’s been 17 years since a golfer won the week following any major (Tiger Woods).
  • It took 51 starts after the first win of his career to pick up win No. 10. The only golfer to do that in a faster span was David Duval, who did it in 33 starts.
  • Scheffler is winning against top competition as seven of his 10 victories came with at least eight of the top 10 in the Official World Golf Ranking in the field.
  • The streak of rounds of par or better now stands at 40 for Scheffler, who is 12 rounds away from Woods’ record of 52.

But there’s one achievement Scheffler has yet to accomplish: win three PGA Tour starts in a row. The last to do that remains Dustin Johnson in 2017.

But even if Scheffler wins his next tournament, the argument can be made that he’s still the second-most dominant golfer in his sport.

That’s because Nelly Korda just picked up her fifth straight title, winning the Chevron Championship (one of the LPGA’s five majors) over the weekend. She’s the first to win five in a row since Annika Sorenstam in 2004-05. The only other golfers to do it – men and women – are Woods, Nancy Lopez, Ben Hogan, and Byron Nelson, who holds the record with 11.

Scheffler said Monday:

“One of the people here asked me, like, ‘Is this turning into a competition between you and Nelly?’ and I was like, I don’t know, man, I think if it’s a competition, she’s got me pretty beat right now. Five wins in a row … it’s pretty special stuff. To win four times in a row and then show up at a major championship and win is extremely impressive. So I’m extremely happy for her.”

While we wait to see what Scheffler has in store in his next tournament, check out our podcast about Scheffler and if he can be the man to save the PGA Tour.
