Shane Lowry, the 2019 Open Championship winner, was cruising at Royal Troon until reaching the 11th hole on Friday – called “The Railway.”

Lowry’s round had the potential to go off the rails when his second shot went off-course, leaving him furious with a cameraman.

Lowry then took a provisional shot that went about 20 feet past the hole. But before he could play again, a spectator found the original ball, meaning he had to play that one.

He chose to drop and played a new fourth shot that landed short of the green. After an up and down, he escaped with a double bogey that dropped him into a tie for the lead.

But give credit to the former champion for not letting his overall game go off the rails.

He finished the rest of the round at 2-under, including this birdie on 18 to finish at -7 after 36 holes.

The big mover so far today is Billy Horschel. The American fired a 68 to wind up at -2. On the other end, after shooting a 68 on Thursday, Justin Thomas is in the middle of a disastrous round – sitting at +9 after nine holes on Friday and a shot behind the projected cut line of +5.
