Snow Problems at PGA Tour Champions Event in Tucson, Arizona

There’s a reason that the PGA Tour and all of the other golf leagues in the United States play their winter tournaments in places like Florida, California, and Arizona.

To avoid scenes like this.

Unfortunately for the PGA Tour Champions senior circuit, this is Omni Tucson National, home of the Cologuard Classic that starts on Friday.

The two inches of snow the property received on Thursday is a rare event—just this dusting marked the 20th snowiest month on record in Tucson, Arizona!

Rob Labritz, who is making his third start of the season on the PGA Tour Champions, filed this report prior to playing in the pro-am on Thursday.

The conditions didn’t stop Jerry Kelly from playing the 18th green. And look on the bright side—it’s easy to get a read on the greens after putting the ball!

Things look a bit better for the tournament’s opening round on Friday afternoon. Overnight temps were in the mid-30s and got up to 45 once the sun came up. So while it will be a chilly round, players won’t have to contend with the “hazardous” conditions on the ground.
