As we start moving through the fall golf calendar, more and more of the 2023 equipment is seeing the light of day and its first competitive rounds.

After seeing the new Wilson, Mizuno, and Srixon offerings were spotted, PING is now the newest manufacturer to tease its new stuff with the G430 driver, fairway wood, and hybrid lineup:

It appears that the new G430 lineup will consist of the same models currently featured in the G425 series:  a LST (low-spin), SFT (straight-flight), and MAX (highest forgiveness/MOI). In addition, it appears that PING’s precision-machined T9S+ forged face will also been continuing into the G430, albeit with some expected updates.

Perhaps the most noteworthy advancement in the G430 will be the CarbonFly carbon crown, a first for PING during the past 15 years despite many of their competitors, such as Callaway, TaylorMade, Mizuno, and Cobra, making carbon crown a staple feature during that same period of time to help increase MOI by lowering the center of gravity with a lighter weight crown.  Dragonfly technology appears that it will continue to carry over, despite the possible switch to carbon fiber.

The G430 fairway woods and hybrids, likewise, appear that they will be seeing updated versions of the current staple technologies featured in the G425s—Facewrap steel faces with Spinsistency curvature and Trajectory Tuning 2.0 adjustable hosels—except for the carbon crown. I personally find this very interesting since many manufacturers, like Callaway and TaylorMade, pioneer their new technology in the drivers first and, in the following generation, look to incorporate it into their fairways.  See, e.g., Callaway Jailbreak technology (first featured in the Callaway GBB EPIC drivers in 2017 but then incorporated into the ROGUE fairways and hybrids in 2018).

PING has established itself as a company that only releases new models when technology shows a measurable improvement. It stands that—with the introduction of the CarbonFly—the new G430 could be a landmark shift in PING’s driver design philosophy.
