Known for his long-range, three point shots, Steph Curry is a two-time NBA Champion and Most Valuable Player. While basketball is Curry’s sport of choice, he has always been an avid golfer and will get to show off his golf skills in a real event.

It was revealed on Wednesday that the star of the NBA’s Golden State Warriors had accepted an invitation to play in the Ellie Mae Classic, a tournament that is part of the Web.com Tour. The tournament will tee off on July 31st and will be played at TPC Stonebrae in Haywood, California. This will be Curry’s first professional event, playing with a sponsored exemption.

“I’m going to try and keep it in the fairway and play well.”

And just because he is a professional basketball player, it doesn’t mean that Curry doesn’t have a chance to win. Curry is a good player—unlike other basketball players like Charles Barkley—and played both sports while in high school. Steph has even had the honor of competing against former President Barack Obama.

Curry has also played in pro-ams in the past, once shooting a remarkable two under at Pebble Beach.

Sure there will be a tremendous amount of pressure on Curry, but he isn’t the first athlete to try and compete in the Ellie Mae Classic. Last year, Jerry Rice played in the tournament qualifier, missing the cut while shooting a 79. Steph will look to keep it simple, however, stating “I’m going to try and keep it in the fairway and play well.”

Even though this will be Curry’s first professional golf event, it may not be his last. Steph has stated in the past that he could play a lot more golf after his day job as starting point guard for the Warriors is over. But that reputation will certainly make him the most prominent player in the field during the Ellie Mae Classic. For perspective, Stephan Jeager is the current Web.com Tour money leader with $249,859. Curry has made $47 million playing basketball and in endorsements this year.

So while most Web.com Tour events don’t draw much attention, all eyes are sure to be on Curry’s game when he steps up to the tee at TPC Stonebrae at the end of July.
