STYLE: G-Tech Keeps The Warmth & Feeling In Your Hands

It’s January 2021, and while we are ALL are hoping that this signals that better things are to come, it also means that we’ve got a few months of significantly cooler weather before The Masters and the 2021 golf season kicks off.

Fortunately, golf can be played year round (presuming there’s no snow and the ground isn’t saturated) so long as you’re equipped for the elements.

G-Tech Apparel is a leader in the heated apparel industry who is known for developing a heated hand warmer for golfers, football players and hunters who need to take on the cold. Indeed, a characteristic that each of the aforementioned share is the absolute importance of having feeling in your hands so, for us, you can feel the club in your hands and put in the different grip pressures to execute a delicate putt or wedge shot from thick, heavy rough.

Indeed, while most winter golfers resort to playing in winter-style gloves, I personally am not a fan as I feel that it creates disconnect between my hands and the grip that makes it feel more like I’m playing baseball with batting gloves on. Fortunately, some of us have resorted to oversized mitts that we can slide our hands into in between shots, but, as you could envision, your hands aren’t really going to warm up if you’re constantly taking the gloves on and off in between shots.

G-Tech’s 5th and current iteration, the Heated Pouch Sport 2.0, looks to resolve this program by utilizing their patented “G-TECH HEAT” heating technology that delivers the fastest, hottest and most concentrated heat source for your hands. As pictured above, the Heated Pouch is a weather-resistant hand pouch that clips around your waist and allows you to easily slide both hands in from opposite sides to quickly warm-up in between shots.

The compact, lightweight rechargeable lithium ion battery is rated for between 8 and 12 hours on the low setting, between 6 and 8 hours on the medium setting and between 4 to 6 hours on the high heat setting. And if you’re trying to squeeze in 36 in a single day while visiting Scotland, Whistling Straits or Bandon Dunes (or anywhere else that you won’t allow less than ideal conditions to interfere), G-Tech sells backup batteries that are approximately the size of a sleeve of golf balls and, thus, easily fit in your golf bag.

And for anyone questioning how useful is G-Tech’s Heated Pouch, there’s a chance you’ve already seen PGA Tour golfers using them during some of the most important events, including the 2019 Ryder Cup and 2019 Genesis Open, during which Jim Furyk, reigning Masters Champion and World No. 1 Dustin Johnson, Justin Thomas, Rory McIlroy, Bryson DeChambeau, among several others, were all spotted using G-Tech’s Heated Pouch:

During the 2019 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-AM, PGA Tour Pros Jim Furyk and Matt Kuchar wore the G-Tech Hand Warmer that they received from being on the Ryder Cup 2016 Team. Furyk contacted the PGA of America in hopes of getting in touch with G-Tech to inquire about new product.

While the end of COVID is insight, a majority of us have had to cancel or postpone vacations and golf trips alike, including the 2021 PGA Merchandise Show taking place in Orlando, FL. While safety is paramount, that means the only golf I’ll be getting in these next few months will be in sub-40° weather. As a result, I hope that maybe G-Tech sees this and considers sending over a Heated Pouch Sport 2.0 for review (along with any other heated apparel they may be cooking up behind the scenes) since we’ll have ample opportunity to put to the test during these next few months.
