STYLE: The Corduroy Hat Is Taking Over The Game Of Golf

Style in golf is FINALLY becoming cool. And I’m not saying there hasn’t been fashion in the past, but more that certain guys made golf clothes look good. The game of golf, and the biggest names in the sport, are finally coming around on the idea that golf doesn’t just have to be a polo and pants.

The corduroy hat started to make appearances earlier this year, and it was primarily smaller brands in the game.

Erik Lang, since becoming a major personality in golf, has always been the “cool” guy in the game – Rick Shiels even dubbed him the “Coolest Man in Golf” on his YouTube channel. And once Erik and his team released apparel under the Random Golf Club name, you knew it was going to be sick stuff. And it was. They were one of the first ones to release a cord hat, and let me tell you as a writer for them and a guy who owns a bunch of their stuff, this hat is dope. The style and simplicity is only matched by the comfort of the material.

I wrote about Manors Golf last week, but I didn’t include their corduroy cap. As a pioneer for style in golf, Manors does everything right. This cord hat, like RGC’s, is just simple. I love how “Manors” is the only customization featured on the strap-back. It’s made from 100% cotton, and is priced on their website at £25.

These smaller brands, at least in my opinion, are always going to be the frontrunners when it comes to new style in the game. Large companies like adidas and Peter Millar would never take a chance on a fashion statement like this because if it flops, they’ll get hit hard. But the corduroy hat has made a big enough impact for at least one major brand to make a splash.

TitleistTitleist now features this new model, the Nantucket Corduroy. It features 100% cotton, a built in moisture wicking sweatband, and premium leather strap with metal clasp. It doesn’t only come in black, as it’s available in 6 different colors; Black/White, Navy/Bone, Charcoal/Black, Hunter/Bone, Maroon/Bone, Bone/Navy (second color in each is the font color).

In my opinion, as more new age style products enter the market, the corduroy hat will be extremely popular not only in amateur golf, but in Tour golf.

I grew up in southern New Hampshire, where I first fell in love with the game of golf. I started by just going out and messing around with my buddies and focusing purely on having a good time! I never took golf seriously until I moved down to Tampa, FL to attend the University of South Florida. Go Bulls! At the start of my junior year I got a job working as a cart boy at a local private country club. This is when I started to focus on golf becoming my career. During the fall of my senior year, I turned from a 14 handicap, to a 2. I passed the PAT scoring test my first try and haven't looked back.
