TaylorMade Drops the New Phantom Black P790 Irons

TaylorMade dropped the Phantom Black P790 irons earlier this week, and…wow.

Although this isn’t the first black P790 model released by TaylorMade, with the previous iteration of the P790 irons also getting a black finish, these are slightly different, as the new irons have a sleeker blade design that has a certain look that is incredibly unique.

TaylorMade improved the P790s with a 69 percent less dense head thanks to an advanced urethane “SpeedFoam Air.” It resulted in a 3.5-gram weight reduction on average.

Those weight savings have been redistributed to optimize launch conditions, paired with a responsive forged 4140 steel face to promote solid sound and feel with a fast, flexible face.

Although the new tech is what true golfers will want, the look is also incredible.

TaylorMade writes:

“Some of us never clock out. P·790 Phantom Black captures the essence of the golfer who is always striving to improve, day or night. With its bold black finish and elegant aggression, this iron symbolizes a relentless pursuit of perfection. The ideal companion for golfers who are always on the grind, day or night.”

Black irons come around occasionally, and TaylorMade is not the first to do it this year.

Titleist released black irons in the T100, T100S, and T200 irons earlier this year. Only a handful of pros on Tour use a black iron head, with the most notable being Cam Smith, who plays a T100 with custom black KBS Tour 130 X shafts, according to golfwrx.com.

Currently, the P790s come stock at $1,499.99 on TaylorMadeGolf.com from 4i-PW.
