Test with Pressure: SkyTrak’s Skills Assessment

Thanks to advancements in technology, consumers finally have access to accurate data with home launch monitors that don’t cost an arm, a leg and their first born.

Indeed, for less than $3,000, you can have a SkyTrak Plus which, thanks to a dual detection system, provides users with both ball and club data, along with optimal metrics for, among other things, launch angle, spin and descent angle (courtesy of GOLFTEC’s library of invaluable data).

Speaking of which, you can get $1,000 OFF a SkyTrak Plus Simulator Studio Bundle right now (and until March 28) with the discount code “ERICB1000” and hyperlink right here.

And let me now explain to why SkyTrak.

With their Game Improvement Plan ($130 per year), you will have access to invaluable tools and data, including the SkyTrak Driving Range with Shot Optimizer, the Wedge Matrix and, what I think is the most valuable tool, the Skills Assessment.

Skills Assessment is basically your customizable combine function. Upon launching this mode, you will be prompted with selecting 10 different distance targets (which can be one of the predetermined targets, like “Mixed Short” or “Long,” or create a list of 10-custom targets), how many shots per each target and, finally, how many of your shots are scored.

Once you hit “Apply” and launch things, SkyTrak will put you and your game to test. As you go through each target, the SkyTrak will display how many shots you’ve hit (or missed), your accuracy, accuracy to the pin and dynamic handicap (for the most recent shot). So just like on the golf course, you can see how the pressure will start to mount as your accuracy and hits wanes while going through the test.

Once you’ve hit all the shots, the SkyTrak will give you an overall Dynamic Handicap (and Dynamic Handicap specific to each target and shot), along with your accuracy, a heat map with your dispersion and your tendency.

The Skills Assessment mode and data it provides are invaluable. Amateur golfers face the unfortunate truth that we don’t have limitless time to practice and work with our coaches, so it’s important to be efficient with whatever time you may have in order to maximize your potential gains. But to be efficient, you need to know your game’s strengths and weaknesses; Skills Assessment does exactly that. It lets you know what shots you have control over and which ones you don’t, and it tells you why you’re struggling with those shots; maybe it’s club selection, maybe its technique. But no matter what, it means that you have quantifiable data that tells you what needs to work, whether that means working on it alone at the range (or in your home SkyTrak simulator) or with a coach.

I can’t remember which one, but during a golf podcast I heard that stuck with me: If you’re not measuring while practicing, you’re just exercising. And that couldn’t be truer with golf, where it’s necessary to know what’s going on with your swing and ball flight. Otherwise, you’re just senselessly hitting balls without purpose. With programs like the Skills Assessment, the SkyTrak+ makes sure that your hitting balls with a singular purpose: getting better. And that’s something all golfers want.
