The Four Biggest Takeaways From The PNC Championship
While watching the PNC Championship this past weekend there were four things that I kept thinking about.
Charlie Woods and John Daly II are going to be battling on the PGA TOUR for years
After watching the two of them play side by side with their fathers you can tell they are going to be good players for a long time. John II was hitting shots left and right that even some TOUR pros would have a hard time pulling off. Even his father John Daly knows his son is going to be legit because he had John II hit second on all shots, which normally the TOUR pro hits second in this event.
Charlie’s mannerisms are just like Tiger’s. Granted this doesn’t guarantee that he will make it on TOUR but you can see through the mechanics of his golf swing that he is moving in the right direction. He was hitting shots all weekend that proved that he is on the right track. He also has arguably the hardest part of the game down, putting. He was hitting great putts almost every attempt and also made some long ones that made you realize, he is legit.

Tiger is still hurt and going to need awhile to recover
Even though we saw him on the range hitting balls during his event, the Hero World Challenge, and heard himself say that he is not ready for PGA TOUR play just yet, I too did not believe him and thought that he was trying to pull a fast one on us. I was wrong. By the time Tiger made the turn each round and especially Sunday, we could see him limping and favoring that right leg that was hurt in the accident.
He was even riding in a golf cart while this was happening so I can’t even imagine what it would’ve been like if he walked all 18 holes both days. Many people are saying they think his first event on the PGA Tour again will be The Masters but after watching him this weekend I think the more realistic goal for him is The Open Championship at St. Andrew’s Old Course in Scotland.

The tournament itself is just AWESOME
It is so enjoyable and wholesome to watch PGA and LPGA TOUR stars play with their fathers. It’s great to see all of the families having fun together and competing trying to win a tournament. The caddy situation is also very fun to watch. Whether it is Joey LaCava and son Joe LaCava Jr on Tiger and Charlie Woods’ bag for the tournament or Stewart and Reagan Cink having his other son and Reagan’s wife on the bag.
Or even Bubba Watson having his son caddy for him for the week. Plus, children could see Justin Thomas playing with his father and realize that golf is a game that they could play with their dad helping grow the game. It is just such a wholesome event and one that I will never miss watching.

Golf is truly a lifelong game, hobby, and activity
From Karl Stenson at 10 years old to Lee Trevino at 82 years old, there were players of all ages playing in the tournament and they were all able to compete. This tournament really drills that in with the viewers. As long as you play the proper tees you can still compete and have a lot of fun no matter what age you are or the other people you play with are.
