The Masters Traditions We Are All Missing Out on Right Now
I don’t mean to bring down an already sad party, but I’m feeling all the hurt this week with The Masters not being played. In addition to watching great golf for four days, The Masters is truly unique in having some of the best traditions.
Traditions that make The Masters great include:
The Par-3 tournament
It’s a Nine-Hole Par 3 contest that takes place Wednesday Afternoon with players and their families dressed in the traditional white caddie tips walking the course with them. It truly makes way for a great time.

Skipping Balls on to 16th Green
The players are allowed three practice rounds before the start of the tournament. Perhaps a fan would want to stand around the 16th green, which is protected by a body of water from tee box to green. Some of the best trick shots you’ll see all week is at this hole as players try to skip it off the water into the green.

Champions Dinner
Every year the prior champion picks a full dinner menu from appetizers to dessert. This year, Tigers’ menu was, pretty G.O.A.T like. Even though he celebrated it, Quarantine Style.

The Green Jacket
The Green Jacket is awarded to the Champion of the Tournament by the latest winner. In 2019, Patrick Reed (2018 Masters Champion) handed Tiger Woods (2019 Masters Champion) The Green Jacket. This is the signature ceremony that concludes such an epic week at Augusta on Sunday evening.

The Ceremonial Tee Shot
This has to be yet my favorite tradition at The Masters. The Ceremonial Tee shot starts the tournament early Thursday morning with 1 or 2 shots by some the game’s icons. Today would have been Jack Nicklaus, for the 11th straight year & Gary Player.

Nathan Palm’s story from 2015 on Arnold Palmer’s final time hitting the ceremonial tee shot at the Masters.
In 2016 Arnold Palmer was on the tee box with Nicklaus but didn’t hit a shot. The Golden Bear went on to say how he tried to convince Arnie to putt a ball off the tee and the fans would go on to love it.
“I said to him, ‘Arnold, if you putt the ball off the tee, everyone will love it,’ ” Nicklaus said, adding, “He said he has some balance problems.”
Today would have been the start of The 2020 Masters, something we look forward to all year for many different reasons. The tournament has recently been postponed until November, and what a sight could that be.
The Masters in the fall? We’re going have to wait longer than we expected, but, it’s going to be history in the making, that’s for sure.
