The Takomo Board Room Is Getting Crowded

Earlier this week, we reported on Takomo’s announcement that Grant Horvat was now a partial owner of the company. But it seems that Grant will have to make room for two new colleagues at the next board meting.

George and Wesley Bryan are also new partial owners of the Takomo brand. Unlike Grant, George and Wesley have been playing Takomo irons for several years now; indeed, Wesley made waves in 2023 when he played his Takomo irons—then a much lesser known brand—in a PGA TOUR event.

Notably, Grant, George and Wesley have become one of YouTube’s super groups with the help of their “The Major Cut” series at some of golf’s most well-known courses, including Pinehurst No. 2, Kiawah’s Ocean Course, Chambers Bay and, most recently, Bethpage Black (John is an incredible caddie by the way, and everyone should ask for him if they have the opportunity to play with a caddie at the Black).

It’s worth noting that while Takomo is a younger brand, it’s also quickly gained lots of attention due the fact that it’s become an unofficial / official influencer brand. Indeed, some of social media’s biggest golfing personalities—Erik Anders Lang, Luke Kwon, Claire Hogle, BustaJack—are “signed” to play Takomo equipment.

While many of these personalities were (presumably) offered free equipment and some cash compensation for playing Takomo equipment (which would be featured on their respective social media channels), it is likely that some of these personalities are getting too big for Takomo—as a much smaller brand—to afford, as industry titans like Callaway and TaylorMade are, similarly, bringing influencers on board to help promote their offerings. So rather than empty the coffers and get into a (losing) spending battle, it seems that Takomo is offering equity as alternative compensation—which more or less “anchors” the influencer to the brand to ensure the equity increases in value (presumably until a favorable buy-out arrangement presents itself).

Since we’re not even 10 days into the 2025, I anticipate that there may be a few more announcements of new Takomo equity holders in the near future. So the only question now is, “Who’s next?”
