The Voice Caddie VC300 Review
I love technology, but only when it is useful and simplifies something for me. The Voice Caddie 3 or Model VC300 (one in the same) does exactly that and for a very affordable price. I fell in love with it the first time I used it.
My perspective is a little different than most golfers since I spent most of my adult life as a club professional that has both used and sold technology. The first thought that hit me was that it gave me all the information I really needed and it did it quickly and simply. It is a good device from a speed of play stand point.
I realize that there will be some out there that say it only gives yardage to the front, middle, and back of the green but the golfers out there that actually need exact yardage to the pin are less than one percent.
Set Up
Initial setup is incredibly easy. Take the cord that comes with it out and fully charge the unit. Once it is fully charged check to see if your course is one of the 30,000 pre-loaded courses on it. If it isn’t for some reason you can check the list of another 40,000 with a free program for your PC. Once you have done that you are ready to go. When you get to the golf course just press the power button and clip on your cap or belt. The unit does the rest.
Operation
The voice tone will automatically tell you what hole you are on and what par is when you reach the tee box. During play of the hole it is silent until you interact with it. There is no need to worry about the voice disturbing others. Even with it turned all the way up you would need extraordinary hearing to hear it over ten feet away. To get your yardages you simply swipe your finger one way or the other for front or back and click for distance to the center.
Accuracy
The one thing that you want from a GPS device is accuracy and the VC300 delivers. I used the device in conjunction with an expensive range finder to check its accuracy and every time we checked it the yardages were usually exactly the same, but always less than a yard off.
Battery Life
The manufacturer said the battery life was up to 8 hours and I found that to be accurate also. I could easily get in two four hour rounds on one charge. When it starts to get low it will tell you.
My Conclusion
Voice Caddie did exactly the company claimed it would do and I can’t think of any way to improve on the simplicity or accuracy. It does have a couple of other features that are worth mentioning. It will measure shot distance. Click the unit before you hit the shot and it will tell you it is recording. Click again when you get to your ball and it will tell you the total distance. I like this feature since very few golfers know how far they actually hit each club. The other feature measures swing tempo which is useful during practice sessions.
They come in two colors. Black and white. It can be purchased from a number of vendors but Amazon had the best price I found at under $99.00.
They have done a great job on the VC300, but I know they will eventually come up with some way to improve it that I haven’t thought of.
